Spreading Hope Or Hate?

As we pass the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedies, the phrase "We Will Never Forget" can be seen nearly everywhere in today's society. One issue many parents deem both difficult yet important is informing their children of what happened on that terrible day. They feel their children need to know how devastating the attack was, but they also feel it needs to be conveyed in a way that won't traumatize their child, especially if their child is of a very young age. Rwanda speaker inspires Bellarmine students

Carl Wilkins, director of World Outside My Shoes and an Adventist missionary, gave a speech in Bellarmine's Amy Cralle Theater on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Wilkens spoke of his decision to be the only American remaining in Rwanda when the genocide began in April of 1994. Full story

Steve-O, The Man, The Myth

The man on stage vigorously sprayed his hair with extra-potent hair spray while the crowd stared on curiously. Suddenly, he pulled out a lighter and held it to his head, setting his hair ablaze. While the crowd screamed, the man's buddy walked up behind him, poured some baby oil into his mouth, and spat it at the fire. A large blast of heat shot through the theatre as flames went everywhere. The man grabbed a wet towel and placed it on his head, putting out the fire instantly before taking a bow. The audience members—still stunned—rose to their feet in wild applause as the aroma of singed hair because filled the room. Full story

When local farmer Ivor Chodkowski opened Harvest restaurant on Market Street earlier this year, Louisville locavores were buzzing.  While many independently owned restaurants in the city have started to build connections with family farms around the state, Harvest is the first to build a menu upon entirely local ingredients.   • college day scholarships College Scholarship Day at Churchill Downs Friday , November 11

     

    How does having a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship sound? On Friday, Nov. 11, Churchill Downs will host College Scholarship Day at the Races, where full-time students will have an opportunity to register to win one of ten $1,000 scholarships. The scholarships are being funded by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association and Churchill Downs.
