Death of an innocent landscape

By Erin Carr

125 miles. That's the distance between Louisville, Kentucky and Irvine, Kentucky. Many people may not be familiar with Irvine though. This little town, nestled in Estill County, is known for "Where the Bluegrass Kisses the Mountains." But beyond this point in Kentucky, deep in the mountains, lies an act that is destroying mountains, water supplies and a culture. This is mountain top removal.

How to stay sane during your college career

By Brittany Schnelle

Nothing is easy, but when I entered Bellarmine's doors nearly four years ago, I did not expect what I got myself into. I've always been average, not the best, but good enough. I'm not the smartest, or the wisest, but I do think I had a great college experience. There were some classes where I fought for every point, days I cried in professors' offices because I just did not understand, times I just wanted to give up, but somehow, some way (probably by the grace of God), I'm going to walk across the stage in Knight's Hall on May 10th.

Sodexho: The Bane of Any Reasonable Person

By Brandon Kenney

The average price of a meal is approximately $6.00. This could pay for a meal at Café 360, Qdoba, La Bomba's, and other places that have exceptionally better food than anything the formerly C rated cafeteria can offer.

Beijing Summer Olympics: To Boycott or Not to Boycott

Now, the Summer Olympic Games are four months away and major controversies have erupted in the United States - should the U.S. boycott the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in August?

Disenfranchisement in America

By Krista Willike

America is known as the land of opportunity and equality. However, disenfranchisement laws tell a different story. Disenfranchisement is "the suppression of the voting rights of those who have been convicted of crimes." Disenfranchisement isolates numerous individuals in America. "Today felons and former felons are the single largest group currently banned by law from voting in the United States."

The gift of siblings and being a twin

By Sarah Brown

It's a wonderful world to live in knowing you can turn to your siblings about anything. One can go to their brother about sports, or you know that the "tough" guy will watch your back. One can go to their sister for beauty tips and dating advice. Siblings are the best thing to have in life whether we fight all the time or not. What is even better, though, is being a twin. It is a genuine gift that not everyone is able to experience.

Can you really "Be you at BU"?

By Hannah McNally

"Be you at BU?" Bellarmine states that "it does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, disability, color, religion, or national or ethnic origin," however, it does not allow the freedom of expression within these accepted categories.

Staff Editorial

For the majority of us, this is our last issue. Our last Monday spent in the Concord office for hours laying out pages, editing, and making fun of each other. It is a bittersweet moment. A moment where we are met with joy of being done and turning out a quality product for the year, but also with the knowledge that everything is now out of our hands. Now we must move on and say goodbye to this chapter in our lives. We've trained our new editors, but the hardest part of moving on is letting go of something that's been so important to us during our years here at Bellarmine.
