Poly Sci majors call for addition of a new professor

The political science department of Bellarmine University must become a priority to fulfill any desire of producing well rounded students. As of now, the department has one professor to advise and teach 53 political science majors. Dr. Hoffman makes up the entire political science department. This wonderful professor is commended by his students for his teaching style, knowledge, and advising. He is a favorite among his students and his humor and teaching style create enthusiasm in the classroom. However, he earned his PhD in political philosophy and does not specialize in international relations and modern political issues.

BU students fight to take back the night

The Bellarmine community fought to "Take Back the Night" on Tuesday, Apr. 7. The event, which was hosted by the Residence Hall Association and Save Our Students (SOS), drew a crowd of about 25 Bellarmine students and staff members to raise awareness against sexual violence.

Students fight cancer at Relay for Life

Bellarmine hosted 30 teams and nearly 300 participants for this year's Relay for Life. The event, which took place from 6 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 3, through 6 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 4, raised money for the American Cancer Society, giving participants a chance to fight back against the deadly disease.

President Obama following through in office

Since coming into office, President Barack Obama has made many strides to keep his numerous campaign promises. He came into office amidst much pomp and circumstance with him being our nation's first African-American president. At a recent press conference Ann Compton, a long-time ABC News reporter asked Obama if his race had been an issue in any of the White House's policy meetings. Obama replied, "at the inauguration, I think there was justifiable pride on the part of the country," but his first two months in office had been dominated by working to fix the economy.

Documentary sheds light on struggle of Palestinians

On Thursday, April 2, students, faculty, and the surrounding community gathered in Frazier Hall to watch the documentary Occupation 101. The film told of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from its origins with the Zionist movement, during which Jews claimed portions of Palestine as part of a Jewish state, as declared by God.

Graduating into the economy

The College Employment research team at Michigan State University reports that, because of the economy, employers plan to hire 8 percent fewer college graduates in 2009. While this decrease in hiring may be disheartening to many college graduates, it does not mean that there are not jobs out there; graduates just have to look in different areas to find the open positions.

If you've been reading this series from the beginning, you're probably aware of my ideas on travel. I've long meant to write a long article for some major publication titled, "On Travel and Minimal Impact" discussing the methods of travel that will best preserve the world for future travelers. Falcons fly by Knights

The Air Force lacrosse team used a strong second half to knock off Bellarmine University, 12-7, Saturday afternoon at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. With the victory, the Falcons improve to 4-6 overall, 2-1 in the Great Western Lacrosse League, while the Knights fall to 6-6 overall, 0-4 in the league.
