The expectations just keep on rising for Bellarmine's men's basketball team. After being named the nation's top-ranked NCAA Division II team by Sporting News earlier this month, the Knights were given similar praise from Basketball Times, being named the nation's top DII team.
The 2009-10 NBA regular season tipped off early this week, ringing in the start of another exciting basketball season and giving every team a fresh start on crafting a successful season. Many teams made improvements to their roster, but the dominant storyline of the offseason was how each of the top teams in the NBA made moves to improve themselves, setting up for a top-heavy NBA season with less parity and more dominance by a handful of teams. Here is a recap of some of the offseason's biggest moves:
This past Saturday, the Men and Women's Cross Country teams represented Bellarmine very well at the Great Lake Valley Conference meet, consisting of ten teams. Bright and early at 9:45 in the 53 degree windy weather, there were Bellarmine fans on the sidelines of the course at E.P. Tom Sawyer State park bundled up cheering the Knights on.
Bellarmine's volleyball team kept its GLVC postseason tournament hopes alive on Saturday, winning their final home match of the season over Quincy University 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-16).
Bellarmine's women's cross country has gained national recognition after taking second in last week's GLVC Cross Country Championship. The latest poll by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has the Knights ranked #25 in the nation.
Outside, the air is crisp and cool. The trees have become an explosion of reds, oranges, and yellows. On the ground, the squirrels scamper around burying their acorns for the upcoming winter. Indoors and in lawns, pumpkins, fake spider webs, ghosts, and witches are appearing. This can only mean one thing-that it's time for the Fall Classic.
Lauren Triplett decided 102 minutes of scoreless soccer was enough, netting the game-winner in the 103rd minute of the double-overtime contest, lifting Bellarmine's women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Friday.
This Wednesday, our preseason number-one ranked Bellarmine Knights will play in their first competition of the season in an exhibition game against the University of Louisville.
By: Raymond Hupfer Bellarmine's men's soccer team improved the chance that they make the Great Lakes Valley Conference postseason tournament with a 2-0 victory over GLVC foe University of Missouri-St. Louis. Bradley Barraclough and Ross Hopkins both scored goals for the Knights, and Zane Reifsteck and the defense were able to overcome a 14-12 disadvantage in shots and a 5-1 deficit in corner kicks to record the shutout.
Everyone always says it's pitching and defense, not offense, which wins championships. Coming into this World Series, I had my doubts. Two of the most potent offenses in baseball were squaring off against two rotations that each had one true ace, one enigma, and one solid third starter. But once again, it has been the pitching, not the offense, that has been the key to victory in each of the first four games of the 2009 Fall Classic.
LOUISVILLE, KY- The BU women's soccer team continues to advance in the GLVC playoffs as they narrowly defeated Drury University 1-0 this past weekend at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
